The Orpington chicken has been around since the late 1800s, but the Lavender Orpington is a far newer type of this much loved hen, first appearing on the scene in the late 1990s and early 2000s. They are very friendly breed and often make good lap chickens for children and adults. Like other Orpingtons, the Lavenders are also an excellent egg layer. They can produce around 280 light brown eggs each year.
